Packages Group participated in a Buzz Session and EPR Convening organized by CoRe
Packages Group participated in a Buzz Session and EPR Convening organized by CoRe on February 28-29, 2024, at PC Bhurban. The sessions aimed to develop a calendar for CoRe’s public facing activities for 2024-25, and collectively develop an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Roadmap for Pakistan in the backdrop of climate change.
The focus of the Buzz Session was on sustainable packaging roadshow events, enabling policy environment, circular economy infrastructure projects and the scope of plastic research. There were 37 participants in the Buzz session from 20 CoRe member organizations.
The focus of the EPR Convening was on defining the scope of EPR, identifying waste management value chain challenges and opportunities, environmental, social and legal considerations, as well as the roles of all stakeholders. The tone of the session was set by 3 international speakers from the US/IFC, Germany and Romania who joined us in-person and online, sharing best practices on EPR, as well as considerations and case studies from developing economies. The EPR Convening was conducted under Chatham House Rule.
CoRe’s EPR Convening’s participants included 37 CoRe member organization participants, as well as 22 external participants from the public sector (including high level representation from the Federal GB, KP, Punjab and Sindh EPAs; Punjab Food Authority; and Punjab Planning and Development Board), private sector, waste management companies, development/donor sector (EU, IFC, US Embassy/USAID, and UNESCO), academia, and journalism.
